Kumar Tharmalingam is a graduate from the College of Estate Management, London School of Economics with a B.Sc. in Real Estate from the University of London. |

He is also a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Fellow of the Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (ISM) and registered as a Real Estate Valuer and Property Consultant with the Board of Valuers in Malaysia.
He was country Partner of Debenham, Tewson and Chinnocks in Malaysia from 1978 to 1986.
In 1987 he established the First Malaysian Property Trust (FMPT), a joint venture between the Bank of Commerce and Austwide, Australia. He became the Manager and subsequently left to establish the MBF Unit Trust.
In 1992 he joined Taiping Consolidated Berhad (TCB) as an Executive Director in building the Kuala Lumpur Marriott Hotel and Starhill Center and two years later became Executive Director of Sentul Raya Sdn Bhd, a joint venture property development project between Malayan Railways and Taiping Consolidated Berhad for a 75-hectare inner city urban renewal scheme. He build 150 5-storey prime offices, 360 garden landscaped luxury condominiums and 450 medium cost condominiums between 1993 and 1998 in Sentul Raya. He left Taiping Consolidated Berhad in 1998 and became Chairman of Hall Chadwick Asia Sdn Bhd, a joint venture with Hall Chadwick Australia. Hall Chadwick specializes in origination of assets for REITs, sale and leaseback options, asset backed securities and branding of corporate real estate.
Currently Kumar is the President of FIABCI Asia Pacific Real Estate Federation and Secretary General of FIABCI Asia Pacific Secretariat, the International Real Estate Federation headquartered in Paris and a Board Member of FIABCI International based in Paris and Immediate Past President of FIABCI Malaysia.
